FAQ

  • Pilates is a series of intentional exercises designed to help build strength, stability and balanced muscle development. Pilates is low impact (easy on your joints) and focuses first on building core strength to develop functional movement patterns. The six principles of Pilates are concentration, control, centering, precision, breath and flow.

I like to think of Pilates as a moving meditation, and a therapeutic and transformative way to be proactive about your health. The combination of a consistent Pilates practice, daily walking and a healthy diet can be life-changing - especially for anyone with an autoimmune condition or chronic pain.

  • A Pilates reformer is a bed-like apparatus, with a moving carriage, a foot bar, straps and springs. The reformer allows you to add assistance or resistance to your exercises and provides stability and feedback, from the different points of contact of the apparatus. This allows your body to build the muscles surrounding your joints without the added strain.

  • Pilates is perfect for beginners. To begin, you will want to take an intro class, or a private session prior to booking a group reformer class. However, all classes are designed with beginners in mind. We add layers during our classes so you can advance with your practice.

  • Comfort and flexibility are the most important factors when considering what to wear to your Pilates class. Choose form-fitting, breathable shirts and pants. Stay away from clothing with ties or zippers in the back, as we do a lot of lying on our backs. Avoid loose clothing as it can get caught on the equipment. Wear grip socks to allow for proper grip and safety. If you don’t have grip socks, we sell some at the studio.

  • We make Pilates more accessible by having several options that extend beyond what other local studios offer. The most accessible way to add a sustainable Pilates routine is through independent practice via station rentals. Our unlimited monthly recurring membership is $100 per month and allows you to access the studio for up to one hour each day. You would first book a private session (or package of sessions) with one of our Pilates teachers. At that time, you are set up with your own personalized Pilates program.

The other way we make Pilates more accessible is through our 25-minute class offerings. You don’t need long sessions to see results - you need a consistent practice.

  • You should get clearance from your physical therapist prior to taking a Pilates class. We have a physical therapist on site should you need a proper analysis prior to starting an exercise program. Dr. Annika Michaels is an excellent resource and can help you reach your physical wellness goals!
